| Background: In
spite of succumbing to various occupying nations from
the Middle Ages to the twentieth century, the Baltic
states of Latvia and Lithuania have consistently and
successfully grown high quality flax, and have spun,
dyed and woven linen yarn. Hand weaving on wooden looms
has been practised for centuries, and until recently,
every home had its own handloom. Textile weavers are
deeply conscious of continuing these fundamental traditions.
My aim is to keep this alive and ensure that it remains
a viable lifestyle.
